Supporting the Inborn Drive to Grow

Preschoolers get into everything. They explore everything, learning rapidly. This drive continues if it's allowed in school.

Every day at Sudbury-model schools, we see kids active and engaged with life, intent on mastering their world, expanding their world, following their natural drive to grow up. The only restrictions are firm, fair behaviour rules.

The Kingston Sudbury-model School is modelled after Sudbury Valley School, a school in New England founded in 1968. There are about 40 Sudbury-model schools worldwide.

An Empowering Space for Kids

At the Kingston Sudbury-model School, each kid controls what they do, how they do it, and how long they do it. This responsibility is challenging, and the difficulty is worth it. To engage in their own interests, to invest in what they value most, is immediately fulfilling, while developing skills transferable to any project.

Involved in running the school if they wish, students become practiced in speaking up for themselves and persuading others, in matters important to their lives.

The Sudbury model has a long history, and has been successfully duplicated many times. Unique in Kingston, the Kingston Sudbury-model School will fill an important role.
